After Runnymede Gets Featured on MySpace

Guess what! I’m getting my profile featured on MySpace Love. There was a “contest” being held on MySpace for “love stories” and I decided I’d try to get some promotion for my song “Cuba”… sure enough, they’ve approved and have sent me a response today saying that it will be featured later this week… when I’m not sure, but here’s the exchange we had;

Subject: Feature my love story

In May of 2008, my girlfriend and I were in a rocky period of our relationship. We both recently graduated from school and were beginning our careers. In hopes of rekindling our affection for one another, we decided to take a trip to Cuba feeling we were long over due for a holiday.

Sadly, the trip was off to a bad start. When we entered the Cuban airport, we were accused of smuggling. One of the dogs smelled marijuana on my luggage… my girlfriend was furious with me fearing I had actually brought some. Truth be told I had none… what the dog was smelling was the stench left from our trip to Jamaica a year earlier.

They found cigarette papers in my first aid kit which I forgot were there but claimed to be used for razor cuts while shaving. Luckily I got off the hook on that one. On this trip I brought a ukelele… an instrument I had never learned to play before. Every day I would sit on the beach with a Rum and Coke and learn to play the Ukelele.

Sadly, listening to me learn how to play wasn’t her cup of tea so we went our separate ways. This was of no service to our lost lust for each other… and being searched at customs because I hadn’t cleaned out my bag wasn’t helping either.

So in a desperate attempt to win her heart back, I composed a song on the Ukelele and played it for her on our last night. It’s called Cuba… and it’s available on my MySpace profile… it seemed to work for the time being, but sadly it didn’t last.

Less than a month later she left me… after we had been together for 6 years… we were high school sweet hearts.

So here I am, now touring France as an indie singer/songwriter with the Ukelele I bought less than a year ago using the song I wrote for her as my single, i.e. Cuba

We were in Veredaro from May 5th to May 12th and our 6 year anniversary was June 5th 2008. On June 12th (the night after my Grand-mother died) she left me.

I don’t hold it against her, I’ve accomplished more in the 6 months there after than I had in the 6 years with her. I just felt I should say, that a broken heart is often what’s needed to get your life back together.

Here’s to you… my first love (who shall remain unnamed).
